In the first installment we’ve compared the pricing structures of two of the industry’s leading GPS tracking solutions, the Spark Nano and the Quantum MiniQ. We will now continue the discussion by pointing out some of the ways in which the two systems differ when it comes to their software platform’s security features and advanced capabilities. While, as was mentioned earlier, both tracking systems offer users a robust and reliable GPS monitoring capacity, meaningful differences do exist with respect to some of the solutions’ web-based mapping software.

Geo-fencing

Geo-fences are zones that are drawn on a virtual map that, if violated by the tracking unit, will trigger an alert message to be sent to all authorized users. The Spark Nano allows users to create such territorial zones by essentially drawing circles around a specific point on a map. If the tracking device travels outside the territory encompassed by the virtual zone then notifications will be sent out. The Quantum MiniQ has multiple Geo-fencing options. In addition to simple, circular shaped geo-fences, users of the MiniQ tracking solution can draw polygonal shaped exclusionary zones. This permits one to create permitted and exclusionary zones with a much greater degree of specificity. This is particularly helpful for tracking operations that take place in environments where fleet managers or other trackers require a greater level of control over their monitored subjects’ whereabouts. Finally, the MiniQ supports route-specific geo-fencing as well.

Security Features

For a number of important reasons, access to real time tracking information is best kept well-secured. The Quantum MiniQ, with its multi-layered and varied security features, is particularly well-suited for this reality. Unlike many competing tracking solutions, the MiniQ restricts user account information to those who have a uniquely generated username and password. In addition, the tracking system’s platform incorporates encryption and a whole host of other advanced security features that are typically found at leading financial institutions. For all these reasons law enforcement, government and other organizations that require a high level of security routinely turn toward the software platform that powers the Quantum MiniQ GPS device.
